I am not sure what always struck me about this image. All I can feel is the strong intensity of Simone Martini and Lippo Lemmi's painting. The two-dimensionality of Byzantine art inspired me to try to recreate this wonderful scene.
I wanted to free those lines and bring the protagonists to me.
